do facebooks apps make any money? and how?

im presuming they have a strict tos where you can have any ads and shit in the app....but if you have a corresponding website related to the content of the app, that you can drive people to, and there are ads and other shit on there...it may work?

how hard is it to create a facebook app? or what would it cost to pay someone?
im presuming its the new bandwagon and designers want way too much money...they're the elitists of designers, almost up there with the flash designers :mamoru:

You CAN have ads within the application itself. However, Facebook users are extremely blind to ads; especially the ones going around and using a lot of applications. The problem isn't getting the ads in front of the viewers, it's getting them clicked.

Some apps are very clever and make money through other means. I'll go into more depth about this some other time after I release the app I'm developing.

No offense, but every thread in the webmaster section that I've participated in, you haven't proven much value yourself.

That said... Ebtek, don't stop looking for ways to generate revenue with your app. That article is very broad and doesn't cover much on how to actually do each of those points, rather than just saying, "you can make money doing this, this, and this."

Ive mainly used my app to drive more visitors to my site. I basically gave up on trying to make money from it from sources like ads.

From what I've seen, it's very tough to generate revenue through ads. CPM ads are low rates, and CPC/CPA ads need to be have extremely desirable incentives.

pretty hard to get people on facebook to click on ads. i do see a lot of ads now that make button pictures to click on that resemble the facebook buttons. they also say general stuff like 'continue' or whatever, depending on the application. i dont know how many people you can trick with that though.

honestly i think apps on facebook being 'hott' is pretty much over. once people started doing it, the place was flooded with apps and people are already getting tired of them (you can search for some facebook groups against app invites and what not) .

No offense, but you're a fucking idiot.

I'm a developer. When it comes to programming related problems, I help as much as I can. I've built full on templates to help people in this forum. I can screenshot my inbox of private messages from people in this forum asking me for help. I've written full on JavaScripts and PHP Scripts for people in this forum. I have quite the handful of people who post specifically in this forum who've added me to AIM and ask me for help. Unfortunately, most people in this forum use it to advertise their own apps and request diggs. That being the case, sorry I'm not sackriding Friend Fury as much as you'd like.

yea, i can see that. but my app would actually be something people will find very useful...and im surprised no one's done it yet. ive searched the app section and theres nothing even close to it.

that being said, is the majority of fb users mindless kids that would rather throw some dog feces at someone, than participate in something worthwhile?

i dunno, im getting some indian to do it for $350. if nothing comes from it, i'll consider it a learning experience.

no, the majority of facebook is not myspace. but still doesnt tell you anything about whether or not they will participate in your app idea. also i heard something about not being able to 'force' invites anymore in order to use an app, so that obviously is a huge factor now in spreading the word on your application in facebook
