    I am an E-5, 94E20 Radio/COMSEC Equipment Repairer. I joined in September 2004.

My assignment is about as cushy as it gets: strategic in Germany. It is my first and will be my ONLY duty assignment in the Army. I ETS in September and with terminal leave I will be out in August.

So, something has come down the chain and they are looking for volunteers to go down for the last 6 months of a 15 month rotation for undefined reasons. One of my Soldiers spoke with another 94E down there and apparently it will be behind the wire, but I am the kind of guy to volunteer to do whatever, so I know I will go out and do dangerous stuff.

Am I crazy to consider it? I have under 6 months left until my ETS, it would involve an extension. I have been looking for jobs in the civilian world, but until I am closer to my ETS I cannot lock anything in. I have a contingency plan of going AGR in the PA National Guard if I cannot find a decent job.

I have been training up to deploy, to execute my job in a tactical environment, and something feels hollow inside of me. Preparing to do something and then never doing it leaves a bad taste in my mouth...

What do you all think? :eek3:

You will forever regret not going if you don't do it. Never ever play the "what if" game when you can play the "that was interesting" game.

Well, putting in the word will result in a:

    Fit for deployment?: YES
Will unit let him go?: NO

So I will say yes and see what happens.

Under the condition that I can send my family back stateside, I would do it.
