Just as the title states, what should I buy? Currently leaning towards the Springfield GI45, but haven't found any in stock locally.

I haven't found any good used deals either, so give me some suggestions!

If you don't mind buying used you can find Springfield Loaded models for around $600. I got mine lightly used for under $600.

If its just going to be a range gun the Rock Islands aren't terrible. I have heard good things about the firestorms. Also I have heard of Norinco frames being built into match pistols.

I got a Rock Island GI for $400 locally, and I haven't had any problems with it going on 5k rounds now.

Springfield. If you can find one in that price range the STIs are nice.

Do not buy one of the PT1911s. Just don't do it.

Why not? Ive been shooting a box a week out of mine for a a while now, ( just under two years) works perfectly. The only problems were a few FTF FTE's in the first couple of boxes, now just shoots and shoots and shoots anything I feed it.

various inconsistencies with other spec 1911s so parts can sometimes be a pain to swap around, over-all sketchy track record and they usually retail a solid 100$ more than Springer GIs around here.

He may get a shooter, he may get a warranty nightmare. One thing is for certain- he could spend less money for a better pistol the first time instead of running a gamble with the PT.

What inconsistencies? Ive swapped out several of the parts ordered online without a single problem including barrel, grips, safety, used several types of mags, all work just dandy. There is no greater joy than the taurus popping mag after mag at the range while the kimber 1911 owners are constantly jamming that's for sure.

Hey man. My brother's girlfriend's dad has one and he put 200 rounds through it so they must be good to go.
