want a new handgun, i think i'm gonna give my 1911 to my dad. since i already have an HK USPf 9mm, i don't want anything similar like a p229 or anything. i'd like a .45, but would consider .40 (which i think is cheaper than .45) or a 9mm. has to be under $500. gimme some recommendations!

Get a SC. I don't really like shooting my Glock 27 that much so I can't recommend that. I did shoot an XD SC .40 and it was like night and day. The guy who I traded with at the range liked the Glock better, though so ymmv. I tried to get him to trade permanently but he kinda freaked out about the thought of it for some reason.

i was thinkin that, but it's hard to find something decent in the 1911 category around 500 bucks.

You might be able to get a Springer Mil Spec for under $500 if you look around.

That's cool. The P99 seems like a good choice then.

Too bad. From my experience the XD 45 is one of the best 45's out there.

$500 not enough for a new Arsenal but if you cruise the EE on ARFCom you could probably find some like new SLR's, or you could get one of the new yugo underfolders havnt handled one of the yugo's but most people seem to be pleased with them.
