    i wish the stupid crane wasn't back there. I shot that at 1.4 too. I don't get how it still came up :(

    u need to focus on the dude then...i think the camera focused on the crane.

    1.4? exif says 2.8, also you used 17mm, so you're not going to get much subject to background separation.

    also get as close to your subject as possible and as much distance between them and bg as possible, even focus a little forward... but at 17mm it probably wont be great.

    focal length and camera to subject distance play a huge part in DOF

  11. I think, and I might be wrong -- the lower you decrease the aperture, more than 2.8 -- you'll throw things out of focus.
