...and then instantly ask, "What kind of camera do you have!?!?"

As if I put a camera in front of a subject, pressed a button, and out popped a perfectly composed photo.

It's not the wand, it's the magician. :slap:

They think your photo is brilliant and that's their way of asking how they can take photos like that.

Just focus on the first part. :hs:

and in all honesty, them not knowing, thats the only question they can probably think of to ask since they probably don't know anything about photography in most cases. So brush it off, get the sand out of your mangina, and thank them for the compliment. :big grin:

It does suck... to spend years in some cases learning about composition, lighting, post processing to have somebody come along and give all of the credit to whatever brand of camera you used... That can be extremely disappointing to say the least. It is however a compliment that must be taken at face value... but that doesn't mean I don't imagine myself punching them in the face every time I hear it.

I understand most people aren't photographers, and that's the only question they can come up with.

But it's still a little annoying. I did baby photos for a guy I work with who is a technie and very knowledgeable, and when he saw the results he says "you can tell how great your camera is".

But I'm not really complaining, it definitely is a compliment because that means they think your photos are good.

while boke maybe overused i have seen some decent pics from a point and shoot.

my problem is the post processing. to me its a matter of time and money. how much time do you put into it? if i have several dozen pics that all need it i cant afford to put a lot of care in each one.

well i read somewhere that F stops on a point and shoot are a lot smaller than a DSLR

    like F/2.8 on a P&S is really F/8

also point and shoots fucking blow at high ISO, and they scream at 1.x FPS shutter speed

when people tell you that your camera takes nice pictures, tell them that theour mouth says nice compliments.

seriously, i dont see why it would even bother you. when I talk to other photogs it is one of the first questions that people ask each other.
