Just pulled the trigger on a Tamron 90mm for my d300. Now I have to wait. I can't wait till it comes in

The Tamron and all other versions of the Nikon 105mm > VR version of that lens

VR doesn't function when focusing in macro mode, and the VR version is considered the worst optically of all of the Nikon 105mm Micro's. Both the Tamron and the regular 105mm Nikon are considered the top tier in sharpness, with the Nikon having a better build quality.

Hmm. You really insist this lens is no good, I guess I'll read up on the other two some more.

not no good... I'm sure it's an absolutely beautiful lens...

But for less $$ you can get sharper, and really, thats what macro photography is all about.

The only real reason I can see someone getting this lens is if they planned on using it as a portrait lens as well, and were willing to sacrifice a tiny measure of sharpness to get the VR for the regular zoom shots...

If the VR is that important to you, by all means - get it.

If you're talking about the 200mm f/2... I don't think anyone that owns one and is in their right mind would like to sell theirs. Kinda like someone w/ a 70-200 VR that would sell it used. And if they do, it won't be too much below the retail of it. :o

and yes, thats my 'ultimate' lens goal. Seeing the pictures for it on NikonCafe makes me :wackit:
