    The news is bad enough. But it's the gap between the news and the notification to the family that makes me feel like I'm fucking swinging over hell hanging on to nothing but a thread. :mad:

    believe me, his family's been notified already. there's teams pretty much everywhere who handle that sort of thing.

    Yeah, I tell myself that all the time. But the Army has something called the Family Readiness Group that's supposed to handle things like letting family members of soldiers who are in the same unit as a casualty know that their soldier wasn't the one who took the bullet. They are supposed to do this right after the next of kin to the casualty has been notified. But John has had ~14 buddies die or get seriously wounded so far, and I have only had one contact with my FRG contact since January.

    Somehow, I just don't trust the Army to get the job done right. But I generally calm back down after 24 hours. Even the Army can't be that slow. :hs:

    I guess it all comes down to I can't live my life for the next 14 months constantly calling the Rear Detachment and FRG folks asking if the latest casualty was my son. I'd rather wait for the knock on the door than give in to the fear. :hs:
