all 3 of my close friends that go to the gym on a regular basis must include machines in some way.

i dont mind machines for things like chest flys etc when im going for reps....but when lifting heavy they kill my joints and the movement is so unnatural

    FUCK!!!!

The more people on machines, the less curling in the squat rack?

So, your friends tie you down and make you use the machines?

Last week there was this dude who was probably 5'6" 150 who carried all his weight in his arms and had tiny little stick legs taking up the goddamn squat rack for 15 minutes doing his god damn bicep curls... It was seriously the lamest thing I've ever seen, but obviously my skinny ass can't walk up to some half-broly dude and complain.

Do what I've done. Just ask to work in. Bring in a bar, load it up and work out. If that doesnt give them the message, I have no clue what will.

There was this weird monstrosity of a rack next to it that had no safety-pins and wasn't the standard rectangular shaped rack that is normal... I did my first set or two there until the guy finished up. Had I not been with a friend who could give me a spot in that freakish contraption I would have opted to ask the guy to share.

I don't get why you would do curls in the squat rack. But I am pretty new to the gym.

I have to use machines on some stuff because I go alone most of the time. I don't really like it though. But at least I don't have to worry about dropping stuff on my face.

well fortunately i dont really have this problem at my gym; most of the guys in there use cables/free weights/benches with some machines. i am literally one of the few who i have seen doing squats or deads in the rack. i do catch the occasional bar-height setting around my knees tho :squint:

I hate when they do this shit. I usually tell them are you going to squat. They say no and usually leave. Works for me

I just don't understand why anyone would do such a thing in the first place... why would you need a fucking rack for bicep curls? You could just sit the bar on the ground and deadlift it up..... oh wait

    There's nothing wrong with machines..

Complete isolation of a muscle you are trying to make grow is a good thing.. of course, it's more helpful once you've already been lifting heavy with free weights for sometime, but to rule them out as being useful is just retarded.
