real life > fake ass shit.

but for real, martial arts is a cool hobby, but fuck putting my life at risk by fighting someone, or even getting close enough to someone to hit them/have them hit me.

I was making a reference to how everyone in The Cage keeps referring to their personal favorite fighting styles as being the only worthwhile style out there.

Your greatest weapon in self-defense is your brain. Use it to think of ways to stay out of trouble.

Fighting skill sincrease your chances of getting out of the situation alive. Having a gun does the same thing. Difference is a gun can increase your chances of getting out of a worse situation where fighting skills are only marginally useful. Both are def useful but if you have to pick one, a gun will get you out of almost every situation fighting skills will, but better, and some they won't!

That said, Knyte here is somewhat right IMO. Situational awareness can prevent you from getting into probably 90% of the situations where you might need any form of defence. Just as importantly, brains are what will get you out of them too, not just muscles or weapons but knowing when to act and what course of action...

  8. Well I will put it like this. In my state I will most definitely not be able to get a CCW. Perhaps when I get moved around with the military I will get a CCW for said state but whats the point if I'm moving around all the time.

The only thing I can arm myself with is a knife and Krav Maga and thats what I do.

Edit: Also a lot of people that do Krav shoot often, at least my place.

depending on what state you get you CCL, it might be honored by other states. check packing.org for more information.

Trained in some form of MA for the last 8-9 years. Serious periods of time and other times casual -- depends on lifestyle at the time. But what facinates me in the MA guys despise firearms, and firearm guys rarely learn any MA.

If I had a choice to draw on an attack that's rushing me, or block the shoot-gain position-submit.... well I'll draw. But if I didn't have the chance to see him comming, I'll be damned if I try to draw with him on top of me. "Here's my gun, sir!'

martial arts are cool, but useless when someone is 50 yards away with a gun pointed at you

The guys over in the cage are just afraid that they'll get in more trouble from shooting someone than they will from complying. Nobody was talking about how they'd kick the crap out of someone that pulled a gun on them. They just said that they'd do whatever they said and hope for the best. That's fine for some people and a lot of time it works. I'm just not willing to put my life in the hands of a criminal :dunno:.

I remeber my martial arts instructor telling me a story about Ed Parker (kenpo founder) :

when asked "why do you carry a gun" ?

he answers "because these (holds up hands) don't work from 10 feet away".
