From my uniform allowance .
Nice! I've tried to avoid it, but I may cave in and buy a 5.11 vest for IDPA. As much as I hate the look (IDPA uniform) it is the best "attire" to draw a gun from concealment because of the reinforced panels inside the lapel, and is snagless. And is also "little" bit cooler than my fleece vest for times in Washington it's actually warm out.
I like their watches as well, I have the 5.11 rangebag.
I like the 5.11 because 5-11 is my birthday. I got all kinds of 5.11 gear. Really good jackets and shorts
How are pants tactical?
they are tactical because they say 5.11 on them. Then you can pose with your AR and dark sunglasses like your doing VIP security detail like in the 5.11 catalog
Sweet. I've played counterstrike, I'm good at escort missions.
What's even better is that 5.11 refers to rock climbing....
yeah they orginally were rock climbing clothing and camera vests from what I remember. Wasn't their name royal robbins or something like that. Then they switched gears to a bigger market with more disposable income.
Regardless they make good stuff.
There's also a 5.10 company that makes climbing shoes...Confusing.
Exactly. The pants that I have are actually Royal Robbins Halfdome pants, same thing as original 5.11's, just got 'em on clearance from REI.
do they have the super useful built in tourniquets? Browsing through a catalog the other day, and there were pants with 4 built in quick access tourniquets. I'd imagine if you're planning on needing something like that, it'd best to just invest in some body armor.
They even have the mag holders in the pockets? (Do 5.11 pants have that feature, I can't remember.)
Oh, also, before I forget, if you've still got that motorcycle, you should let PM me how much you want for it and a picture or two, and all that good stuff. Harvest is a couple weeks late so I haven't started working 60+ hrs a week yet so I can afford a bike, but hopefully soon!
The pants and shorts are pretty good but they are kind of backwards for shooting. I wrote them an email once.
That big back pocket (those that have 5.11 shorts and pants know what I mean) should be on the left side. Same for that piece of webbing. Actually flip evenything pocket on the right to left and vice versa.
If the big pocket was on the left it would be perfect for a big AR mag or 170mm pistol mag. For a right handed person you could go for the mag without taking your hand off the gun (we reloaded left handed). The webbing is really good for attaching a shot timer, or hanging a double AR mag. So yeah if it were on the left hand side it would be better for 3 gun shooters or anyone that shoots AR's
Now the flashlight spare mag pocket is on the right. It should also be on the left. For same reason, the gun is in your right hand. Left hand reloads gun or holds flashlight.
I talked to my partner about making some shooter specific pants and shorts as he also has a clothing company. Put all the pockets in the correct places. I also want shorts with no right front pocket. This is because when I wear my race holster the nose of the pistol trys to get in the pocket. That or I get temped to put things in this pocket (like my keys) and it pushes on the holster when I contort my body to shoot around or under things.
OK segway to more of Yar's off topic shit....
I got a taylor that makes alterations to my shooting bags, and shooting gear. I bring in my pants and shorts that I wear for shooting and have him stich the right front pocket closed. First time I asked him to do this he gave me a really funny look. Then I explained and he just gave me this blank look.
Then I bring him my shooting bags and I want him to stich webbing here and there and modify pockets for ill gun shit. stich stuff like patches on my discrete carry laptop and fanny packs so they look less like there might be guns in them, etc.
The mag pocket on the front of the 5.11's got moved to the left leg a couple years ago now, or if you prefer you can get the woolrich elite's which have them on both legs. The rear pockets have been the same size on every pair I've ever had, only difference was the right rear having the strap.
What is the strap for?
for rock climbing you can hook your carabiners on them.
Don't think I will be doing any of that anytime soon.
Then don't buy rock climbing pants marketed towards shooters
They were free.
Well that strap is actually really usefull. You can hang all kind of stuff on it. When I'm walking up to shoot a stage and I got a rifle in one hand and a shotgun in the other I can hang a double ar mag (two ar mags held together with a clamp) off the strap. Like I said I clip the timer to it for training or when doing RO duties. Some of the guys use it to help keep their holsters in place when they wear one at 4 o'clock
How do they use it to hold the holster in place.
Belt the holster at 4 or 5 o'clock and loop the strap over the the nose of the holster. That way when you sit or crouch it holds the holster in.
Ah you mean owb?
