Yea, so 95% of the people say just live with the viewfinder dust. I live in the other 5%.

Process was actually pretty easy if you follow the steps here http://www.ascent-design.com/photo/Clean5D/

AND you MUST take your time. The important thing to remember is that there's clips and all sorts of corners once you get inside the camera. Take your time NOT to bump the focusing screen or the AF screen (the one with the AF points) against any of these corners. These screens are very soft and will scratch if you bump them into something.

The results came out really good. There's still 1 or 2 tiny stubborn specks, but 100x better then what it used to be.

Fuck that, knowing myself, I'd drop the AF screen on the floor.

yup, i think if the dust there ever bothers me, i'm sending it to canon. i have a bucket full of misc bolts and other pieces leftover after working on my cars over the years, i'm pretty sure having leftover parts after this procedure is a bad thing.

    yeah, OUT.

I'd rather send it to Canon to be cleaned/refreshed (if they even do that)

 I'm glad I'm not the only one who gets done putting everything back together, find 3 random ass screws on the floor or in a cupholder and just go "Welp, fuck"

I consider it to be weight reduction.

I did mine on my Minolta 5D when I had about 5 spots, was nervous as shit. Was able to get it all back together without an issue, but the problem I had was I ended up with more dust than what I started with! After about 5 times taking it apart, cleaning, and putting it back together I got it down to 2 spots and just left it. Never again! I will send my bodies to Precision Camera for cleaning from now on.

Hmmm... I might have to try this on my 40D! I've got access to a full precision tool set at work from their old cam repair lab.

    Might be fun!

It really isnt. I cleaned the VF on my 5D a lot because it always sucks in dust. The only scary part is potentially dropping those two TINY screws into the body.
