As some of you know I'm at DLI training to become a linguist. My specific language program is fucked up as all hell but thats another story

    anyways to the story...

Last Friday we had a formation and I just moved to a new dorm thursday night (which btw has a bathroom light that doesnt work so i have to use my floor lamp to get some light in there..i told them this thursday afternoon..this will play into the story later)...so Friday I wake up ..go down there and realize I have no idea who my new rope is and who I'm supposed to check in with. Anyways I look for my old one and he's nowhere to be found either (i found out later he delegated it out to a different person). Anyways I get action noticed to see my MTL that day for lunch..go in "why werent you at formation this morning" I tell him the story and he's like "well unfortunately a bunch of people seemed to miss so i'm going to have to give you saturday details" Gay but ok I can deal with it

FF to saturday details....we have an open ranks and the asshole seargent thats in charge decides to tell pretty much everyone that doesnt shave their head that they are out of regs...pulls my 341

FF to today...afternoon action notice ..guess who's on it. So i stop by my room first and notice..hey my 341 is gone room has been inspected and something was bad enough to fail me...go in the bathroom thinking surely they have fixed my light...no dice

So i go into my chief mtl office "sir you action noticed me"
"Yes you had saturday details and you failed your open ranks"
    "sir?"
"says here your hair was out of regs"

so i procede to tell him that i had just gotten my hair cut a week and a half ago and that i dont see where its out of regs..i show him and he's like
"well it looks like your ears are just close to your head..but unfortunately im going to have to give you another saturday details and phase 1 for the week"

you have got to be fucking kidding me..but thats not all!

so i tell him my 341 is gone and ask what happened with that..then he tells me my coffee pot was plugged in and its a big safety hazard (apperently nevermind the fact that i have a lamp plugged in with a cord running on the bathroom floor because they cant fix my light) and that i failed my room inspection...that they gave me the first day i moved in

i cant take this shit anymore...why didnt i just go to a normal tech school
CLIFFS: the air force is fucking gay

Welcome to the military. Either cut your hair shorter or more often - whichever works best. And coffee pots left on are a major safety hazard. Life gets easier when you get with the program.

So for us non-AF people, what the hell is a 341?

Shit happens! My roommate in tech school left his cell phone out but yet I got the Saturday details. Do it and get it over with. Shave your head every week until you finish tech school.

You'll learn the dirtbag ways soon

Unless you are a tight-ass, you'll learn how to break phase, and not get caught. How to drive home 500 miles away from base every other weekend (3 days weekends, ftw!) How to get out of every open ranks for 7 months during tech school.

    (waiting for the incoming flaming)

couldn't have said it better myself. i'm not bashing, but the military is sink or swim, especially in training.

when people try to argue about what the military has to do and that service members should have a choice about this that or the other, i usually ask them if they have any idea what the term "militant" means. /conversation

A small form that the trainees carry on them with their info such as name, squadron, etc. It's used to report problems or discrepancies with trainees to their leadership. For example: you see a trainee doing something their not supposed to, you would take his 341 and turn it in to his training leader.

Papers that students carry on their person and next to their name tag outside their room. Anyone higher ranking can pull it and write the infraction on the paper, turn it into the squadron and the guy who has his 341 pulled gets dicked.

They can be used for positive reinforcement, but are rarely used as such.

    edit: too late...

Buy some clippers. Taper it right around the ears. Get it cleaned up every month or so and call it good.

You should complain to OSHA, not the AF. That heating element rule comes from them.

They should do Total Immersion language training. I used to work for AT&T Operations, and whenever they wanted to make sure you knew a different language, they always sent you to live with a [insert language here]-speaking family in their country. From the minute you stepped off the plane in their country, you were living the language every second of every day. Language programs lasted from 30 days to 6 months, depending on the level of competance needed. Best language training method I've ever seen, hands down.
