Was it just the 6.0? Or the 7.3 also?

I'm looking at some Excursions and wanted to ensure I got the 'more reliable' version. Are there other Trucks in this same category that I should be looking at? I just like the look of the Excursion and it's huge as hell!!

The 6.0L had problems, the 7.3L was pretty reliable but didn't seem as quick as the 6.0L. the 6.0L has what seems like quicker acceleration and such.

:hsugh: Because it makes more power.

Every person that has towed/used seriously with different vehicles or has been around people that did will never hear or say a bad thing about the 7.3...at all. It was just a great motor. It doesn't make what many consider to be the stump pulling torque of the motors... that's time and evolution of technology. In mind mind, it is more than adequate for pulling serious loads. 520 lb ft isn't chump change. If you're looking for a cheap used truck, a 2001 or 2002 250 up with the PSD is the way to go. 6.0=stay away from.

The 6.0 was a disaster, the 6.4 a good bit better. The new 6.7 is being hyped as ultra reliable (because it's not a joint navistar venture) and making GOBS of torque. 735 lb ft. We'll see.

Dodge and GM need to step it up. :o

I take it you haven't paid any attention to the 2011 Duramax?

    397 horsepower and 767 lb-ft of torque

GM > Ford, not only where power is concerned but also the Allison transmission > *.HDtrucktransmissions

Sir, it will be a cold day in hell before Cummins needs to step their diesel game up compared to Ford or GM. All dodge needs to do is swap in a bigger brother.

in other news, the 7.3 is fucking great, the 6.0 blows headgaskets and the egr cooler fails. both are bigtime repairs.

the 6.4 is proving to be good, MUCH more reliable when you tune out the DPF.

6.7 is supposed to be blessed by god himself, so we will see.

I'll agree that the 7.3L was bulletproof and the 6.0L was a troublesome pile of dog shit. I had two 6.0's, one in an FX4 Dually and another in a King Ranch. Excellent truck and tranny, but the 6.0L was terrible, I just kept busting up one thing after another, mainly turbo and turbocharging components.

I do hope that the 6.4/6.7 will bring back some of the reliability that the 7.3L was famous for.
