Basically, I don't have a lot of friends, and the few that I do have are all girls. I want some bros, but I'm unsure on how to proceed. Any tips, suggestions, etc from anyone who has been in a similar situation?

What kinds of hobbies do you have?

If you enjoy sports, have you ever thought of striking up a conversation with someone at a sports bar?

Shit is hard. I'm with you. I've managed to get some close guy friends again recently, but none that seem like they'd be my Best Man. :o Anyway the thing that has worked for me is to find some sort of social network and jump in. Join a writer's group, a political organization, a sports team- whatever.

Nope. Which sucks because it's the easiest route.

Just show them your AV, it's one of the best on OT.

But yeah unless you are in school, the best way to make friends with other guys is in groups/teams/social network type places. Because trying to make male friends at a bar might be perceived a little :greddy:

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. How do I find that type of stuff, though? Craigslist? Meetup.com or whatever the fuck site that is? I just don't know where to go. Shit was easier when I was in school.

Meetup.com might be good. It's hit or miss depending on your area and what you're into, but it's probably the best singular resource online for finding social groups to get involved in (aside from google :mamoru:).

What kind of shit are you into? Do you have any problems? 12-step meetings are a good place to meet people.:o

Are you good at any sports? Interested in playing on any local rec teams? How about martial arts?

There are all types of things off the web you could go do and see if you make friends :dunno:

I imagine the web works well enough on sites that FS posted, but I don't think many guys go onto that site, the average guy isn't surfing the net looking for new friends. I'd try to get out into a club/activity/sport/martial art and meet people that way.

:werd: I was actually thinking martial arts or something similar like Parkour (well relatively similar anyway :mamoru:). I too would avoid online social stuff as much as possible as more often than not it's just a way for you to spin your wheels. You're better off hanging out at a local coffee shop, taking a trapeze class, or pretty much anything else that gets you around other people. There are tons of possibilities really.

From experience Martial arts works well because (depending on the class you take) it'll mostly be men in the class. And since you are fighting each other it's actually in an odd way a great way to bond... I mean once you've thrown a guy across a room and pinned his ass in a fight, inviting him to the sports bar after class for drinks doesn't seem out of place.

    It pays to have hobbies.

Join clubs. Automotive hobbies are an easy way to start.

I know you like games Clownfart. I know that my city (and probably most) has giant LAN parties where people bring their computers to the back room of some gaming store and nerd out...

I have no clue who actually hosts these things, or where to look if your city/town has them, but I know they exist.

Basically you'll have the easiest time making friends if it is during an activity that you enjoy because you'll find like minded people there :dunno:

We have a local paper (not really news) here that usually lists events, clubs, social gathering type stuff for the month. I'm sure you have something close in your area. worth a look.

Do any of your female friends have guy friends? If so, you could try that. I have a lot of female friends too, and I've met a couple guys that way.

I'm just going to throw this out there but I'd check your local bowling alley(s) to see if/when they run leagues and if any teams could use an extra player. 1) You don't actually have to be good at it because of the handicap. 2) It's a good excuse to go out and drink and 3) You'll make plenty of friends in no time.
We had a guy who's in town on business for a year do this and we were a man down and he's one of the coolest "old" guys I've ever met.

 my best girl friend asked me last night if the Superbowl was this coming weekend and I said I didn't know. She gave me a "whatthefuck???" look and told me I need to shape up. I said "Bitch, you need to shape up and get your mouth around my penis." Then we laughed. Cool chick best friend > *
