3 Years ago I made a decent rig for ~$700

Now... I can't get under $1100 for what seems like a decent rig.

I was looking at an E8400 + HD4850 and 4 GB of RAM and I'm unable to price the rest (PSU/Mobo/Case/Any HDD/Optical Drive/Sound card(not important)) for under $1100 total.

Don't need monitor/keyboard or any peripherals.

Oh, also, I'm canadian so newegg is out of the question.

    www.ncix.com is what I use.

Any suggestions for a mid-atx case(with at least 5 3.5" drive bays)/psu combinations that won't be too pricey?

you don't need a monitor and can't get it under $1100 :ugh:

shit i got my build e8400 4gb ram etc for £400 so $800USD.

which is cheap over here, but i'd expect you could get that setup for like $500 over there.

oh wait canadian, but still be a lot cheaper than our prices over here.

All reasonable cases are $150, then a PSU is ~100, HDD is ~80, the CPU is ~200 and the card is also ~200. Mobo is ~150. It starts to add up, I don't want to cut corners cause I don't plan on making another comp for a while, but still don't want to spend much.

    What case did you use?

Dude, you're obviously not competent enough to build a PC. Buy a Dell.

You getting a retarded one with neon's and shit?

Damn even some of the most hard core cases i've seen over here are like £70 and thats $140

My case was like $20 and is more than fine.

Are you fucking kidding me? Go to the site and find me a decent sized ATX case for 20 bucks.

The cheapest one I can find is 47 bucks but doesn't have enough drive bays for my future purposes.

Ok. I just fail at reading. But fuck this thing is ~1k before MIR's, but comes out to 750ish after. I've had such terrible luck with shitty MIRs that it might as well be 1k :wtc:

    edit

One question for you though, what RAM should I get?

Cooler Master makes some awesome cases and they have some quality cases for under 100 bucks. You don't need an external sound card because majority of the on board sound cards on motherboards today are pretty decent. Can you list out some of the brands/components you had plan on using for your build and it might make things easier for everyone else to help you out.

Maybe you should get off that shitty NCIX then.

There is NO reason you can't build a very capable PC for $600-700. If you are spending $140 on a case, that tells me that you have no idea what you are doing. That would be fine if you had an unlimited budget, but not when you are bitching about the overall cost.

Where would I go? If you know of any other retailers that will ship to Canada... that might be helpful instead of saying "you don't know what you're doing" :ugh2:

But thanks, I figured out that most of my problems are coming with before/after MIR prices.

How bout some 'input' on this build then..

    HDD http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=27144&promoid=1008
    PSU http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=26414&promoid=1008
    RAM? http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=18495&promoid=1008 Is 2x 2GB better than 4x1GB?
    Mobo http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=30295&promoid=1008
    Card http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=30487
    Case http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=20935
    Optical http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=32234&promoid=1008
    CPU http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=27785&promoid=1008

    TOTAL $888.64 before any MIR/taxes.

Should be sub $800 after(if they work) MIR. I shouldn't need such a beefy PSU right? But I know 500W probably wouldn't cut it if I plan to use 4-5 HDD's at once?

I also managed to shave ~$100 off the price by selecting the EXACT same items under their "sale" menu rather than their component browser. Fuck I hate this site. If there are lower prices in Canada, they offer price matching, so I'm still looking around.

newegg.ca is up, and they've been "coming soon" for about a month now (iirc, might be longer). So not yet.

in any case, I'd only use them as a price match point, because shipping would kill any deals as I'm ~20 mins from two NCIX locations.
