These are what I think are correct

A hd-dvd player will upconvert standard dvds while also playing hd-dvds.

    If I have a 1080p tv, and i only upconvert to 1080i, I won't notice the difference.

    My question:

What is a reasonably cheap upconverter or hd-dvd player that would match well with a 1080p set and not be a freezing piece of shit?

    Thank you.

What's a cheap one to purchase that is effective?

Your TV should upconvert the 1080i signal to 1080p.

Anyways, look at the Toshiba A30 or 35. They both upconvert to 1080p and are regarded as some of the best upconverters (compared to 3-4K+ video processors). check out avsforum.com
