I broke down and ordered the Nikon 85mm f/1.8 for my shoot this weekend. I hope its gonna be a good choice. I am working on a project with one of my friends that's gonna involve some cool stuff...I hope.

We are doing a Graffiti on Girls themed shoot. I'll do the photos and he'll do the painting. I'll share pics later.

I like my 85 1.8 alot. It's sometimes prone to CA's and purple fringing though...

I got one with a hood, so that might help some, but I've heard that about ALL primes...

In most cases it isn't bad at all. Usually only in extreme situations.

Purple fringing is a sensor issue
    CA is a lens issue
Neither are helped, hurt, diminished, or solved through the use of a lens hood.

    Dont shoot strongly backlit subjects

The 85/1.4 has worse fringing than the 1.8, the 1.8 is also rates higher on the MTF charts.

The beauty of the 1.4 is the bokeh

Lens shipped yesterday, got here today...some purple fringing.

    Tack sharp though.
