Please tell me the reason behind this and why women say this so much.

We all know about ass hole vs. nice guy and don't need to get into the debate of which one is getting the girl. It's obvious.

My question is, why do women feel the need to make this excuse?

    I always wondered this. :dunno:

I've actually never heard a woman say this although I HAVE had women admit they are attracted to the "wrong" type of man.
edit because I didn't answer your question: I think women make excuses because they know the man they are with is the wrong type. They know they deserve better but for whatever reason (lack of self esteem or whatever) they stick with what they have. That or they are afraid to leave. Security means more to some women than being in a decent relationship (please note that I am NOT agreeing with their actions).

I'd say lack of self RESPECT moreso than self esteem....

Who are you more likely to think about - the lovesick puppy who follows you around all day and pays you compliments, or the arrogant prick who makes you work for his attention?

Well that's all fine and good, but I wouldn't say 100% of men are either one extreme or the other -- there are plenty of "middle grounders" who balance the two personas quite well.

My point is that a lot of women like a challenge. If you have to work to get someone's attention you value it more than if it comes easily... therefore that person is more attractive to you.
