    Did two matches, lost both.

First match (against a black belt) I get thrown right away, I manage to land on my side a bit to avoid ippon... he gets side control and I immediately get half guard, at this point the ref yells IPPON! for the throw. Now sure why he took so long to call it. My instructor agreed it didn't look like a full point, but no biggie.

Second match is against an orange belt, I had a chance to try a couple trips and attempted a knee wheel but couldn't get anything (i have about 3 hours worth of standup judo training). I avoided his throws and used each attempt of his as an opportunity to take his back. He played really defensive and I could never get a solid sub attempt.

Late in the match he finally got a really tight scarf hold which I couldn't escape and he won. I'm pretty sure I was ahead on points when this happened though, so that's pretty cool.

Considering I don't really do judo, I had a blast. I may start coming to my schools judo class so I be a little more competitive at it.

It indicates a clean throw, giving the person who performed the throw an instant win in that match.

it means full point and that you've lost the match

    a clean throw is ippon
a pin for 25 seconds is ippon
    a submission victory is ippon

I'd like to see a judo rules tournament except with no gi. That would be pretty interesting.

Well, I havnt officially started judo... I trained judo one saturday for about 3 hours :)

The rules were odd... I was attempting an armbar from the guard when I was penalized for hands on face when I was controlling his head, oops. I also got stood up for stalling when I had the guys back and was working my hooks in... since I wasn't working on an actual sub, it wasn't enough action.

It wasn't bad, their game is just different. Judoka pins are sick... in bjj people get position and then do something with it. In Judo they just make them tight as fuck, I nearly tapped from the scarf hold that I lost to. I've rolled with a few judo players in submission matches, I've tossed around a couple black belts with no problem.

Thanks man, I live for this shit.

Couldn't wear the red gi. While some dudes did go out in a bjj gi, they were told that they normally wouldn't be allowed to, but they allowed them to compete anyhow.

Even so, the rules require a white or blue gi.
