I can't seem to eat enough.

    I'm pretty new at this whole thing. I'm 5'8 and a total Ectomoprh. I was 160 in febuary, and got down to 143 by the second week of March. I cut all the fat that i needed, and i've switched my weight routine to something hypertrophic. I'm trying to eat excessive calories, while still keeping the right balance - and staying to 20% fat.

    I'm having a really hard time getting enough calories.

    Like today, for example - it's 9pm and i've only put away 2300. I'm aiming for 2800, which is what i should be consuming to bulk....but it's 9pm and there's no way i see myself eating another 500 before the end of the day (and i'm not sure if doing so this late is even a good idea?)

    I'm already putting down 72g of Whey a day (and consuming between 180-200g of protein in total). This old guy at the gym suggested brewers yeast, but that sounds kinda oldschool.

    Suggestions?

    id eat way more than that

    3500 is a good bulking calorie intake

    and dont worry about the ratio's at this point, i used to and got no were, right now you just need to cram food down your face

    sure, try and eat mostly clean foods, but at 140lbs you hardly need to worry

    i know 3500 is what i need! but i can't even get 2800 down now!

    Are you saying that saturated fats won't be an issue? Everything i've been reading is telling me to eat lean proteins..

    Should i just drop the cottage cheese and go to McDicks? Something doesnt sound right about that.

    let me add - my bulking phase this time around won't last long. This all started because i wanted to lose my gut for the beach. After i realized how easy it was to lose my gut, i decided i wanted to put on some beef.

    i don't want to be fat in june, so i was planning on cutting 2 weeks into may

    However, i'm reaaaaaaally digging this lifestyle and the challenge. It's been a huge bonus to my life, my mood and my health. I've used tendonitis in my knee as an excuse to not be active for years - and i'm happy to find something that I enjoy that's not suffering from the high impact that my track career put on my knees. That being said - once i come back from St Lucia....i'm gonna bulk up proper.

    that being said, am I better off to not bulk for the next month and a half....cut the last 5lbs i have to cut now and be a a defined 137 (lol)?

    i can easily put away 2lbs of chicken wings - but i was concerned about the saturdated fats when bulking.

    But if you guys are saying that shit is okay at this point.... it will make eating calories a whole lot easier.

    also, if i'm trying to bulk up - is it bad to eat before bed?

    i mean, i'd have no problem putting down a plate of spaghetti and meatballs tonight @ 10:30

    LOL i noticed that after I did my post but was too lazy to delete or edit it... But yea 5'8 and 137 @ 20% BF, thats what you called skinny fat... I was expecting like 10-12% bodyfat from you at that weight. But yea just gotta eat man, I'm similar bodytype as you takes time to gain but once you keep on eating and have consistent routine you'll be good to go. Shit I keep protein bars and powder in my desk at work to keep my daily intake going.

    I take a a shake before I goto bed every night. I just take syntha6 or any time release shake.

    I'm also 5'8, but i weight 152 and plan to stay around the low 150s. I mean when I started I was only 107 :rofl:... I look pretty thin too...

    I'm in the same wusstacular fail boat. I'm 5'8" and have hovered at 133lbs for years now.

    I think 3500 cals is the minimum for me to even think about gaining weight. Not worth the time and money to cram all that food down.

    ::edit::

    I didn't see the 20% body fat. I'd say I'm at least half that.

    I wouldn't be 20% at 137... i'd be no more then 14%.

    I'm currently 18% and 143.

    and when i said "staying at 20% fat", i meant in my calorie balance - not my BF%

    When I don't feel like eating a meal, I just drink it..much easier. Put stuff in your shakes, assuming you're using a blender. PB, oats, ice cream, fruit and so on.

    totally. my post workout shake today was 750 calories. I bring a hand blender to work every day -and am going to start adding PB & oats to my afternoon shakes

    I've also found another solution.

    Smoke more.

    whats the verdict on eating before bed?

    Is it bad for bulking? Will eveyrthing get stored as fat or will those calories go to good use?
