    SBR != FA.... does it? I'd still have to buy an expensive-ass M-16 lower...

    Once it's a machine gun, barrel length is irrelevant.

    Correct.

    SBR != FA

    but

    FA = SBR

    If you have a registered FA, it is automatically considered a SBR also.

    Aaah yes. I thought you meant that regardless of the barrel you had, if it was a registered MG it was also considered an SBR, but what I hear you say now is, if you have a registered MG then it can also be an SBR without additional paperwork.
