Keeping your computer running good and all of that jibba jabba.

One time here I was told to use this defragging tool, this tool to image my hd and with these steps in case you have problems.. use spybot.. hijack this.. AVG was a good free anti-virus etc..

A sticky thread with a huge list of that in this forum would be so awesome..

Id do it but im retarded

Good idea I guess, but there are so many things, you might as well search for what you are looking for.

Well you know.. maybe just a general list of shit you should do when you first build your PC, things to be careful of.. programs that are the norm for keeping it clean.. defraggin... for your registry.. little shit like that.. maybe some links to some good reads about tweaking a video card for gaming or something..

could be very nice but I can see it taking a while to compile all of that and putting it in a post

That would require moderator involvement in C&P. Are you sure you wouldn't rather keep the rotting log as your king?

We should talk about computer parts in Latin, too. That way we'll know that stupid people will never figure it out no matter how much they listen in.

good idea, but too much work. not only it will take a while to compile, it needs to be constantly updated too (e.g. driver links, new versions, etc).

most of that shit can be searched through google anyway, so why bother?

I started a thread similar to this in the request queue, for a form a newb could fill out.
It would make them address the things they know so we don't constantly have to keep asking them questions for stuff they should have told us in the first place.
Like basic hardware, motherboard, cpu, age of build, psu model and watts, operating system, and a general description of the problem.

The newb could fill in the spaces and hit submit, and a new thread would start.

As far as a help thread goes, it's tough enough to get them to read stickies anyway, might as well have a form in there for the ones who do.

well that's different from a repository of info and links but is definitely nice to have one too.

i don't think fazle will go that far though, automated form and all.
let's make it simple,... if a mod could just make a sticky saying that if they want help, they should include all pertinent information to avoid confusion and guessing.

go make a comprehensive template doc,... maybe we can ask a mod to sticky it.

as for the newbs not reading the sticky,... let jolly do his job, telling them they are idiots.

great idea for a thread, but it would probably end up being 15 pages of potroast and deus arguing about something completely irrelevant to the original thread.

Hence the need for moderator involvement, and like I said, I'd rather have a rotting log as the king of this little pond.

Yeah, but somewhere along the line there's going to be hardware failure and you'll still be dealing with it if it's not under warranty.

That's why you purchase Apple Care. :) So far, with 14 months on my macbook, they've replaced the power supply (i ripped out the cord by accident and exposed wires). The top case (I cracked it). The battery (290 charges, dropped to 55%, should have been ~75%). That right there covered the cost of my Apple Care. And yes, I've VERY hard on my macbook (commute every day with it).

I just put a 3mm nick in the middle of my LCD (unsure how), so I'll see if I can get that warranty fixed. :wiggle:. The trick is, keep going up the support chain until someone is willing to give you what you want.

    Warranty > My hardness.

I figured, if my macbook could last a year with me, it was worth the 1900 spent on it. Well, it proved itself worthy.

I guess your hardness isn't particularly hard, then. :mamoru: It's okay, they make a pill for that now.
