I can honestly say it took me over 5 years to nail my diet down.

Right now its perfect. Those of you guys just starting out and want to be serious, this shit takes so goddamn long.

Just talking off the top of my head. Takes so much goddamn experimentation. Whether its bulking or cutting, cutting while keeping muscle. I just fine tuned it this past year, im 26 and have been at it since i was ~20 pretty seriously.

you think you know, but you have no idea, true life vh1

    nice.

i'm pretty new at this, and i think learning along the way is part of the fun.

I used to be a pretty high level track athlete (i was running 54 sec. 400s and 1:57 800s as a junior), but the whole idea of building muscle mass is pretty new to me.

I spent my first month just getting back into shape after not doing anything for 7 years. In that time i've cut 13 lbs of fat, and got my metabolism up.

Last week i've started on a hypertrophic diet and workout, but i'm a little nervous going along the way. I'm concerned abotu keeping the right calorie balance without eating to much protein.

I think im worrying a bit too much too early on though..

totally. I'm finding it difficult to eat more then 180-190g a day. I'm 145 now, and am sure that that's enough (ive been told that any more then 1.3/lb is actually not even going to be absorbed...can anybody confirm?)

my troubles comes in maintaining my caloric ratios while eating enough to put on lean muscle mass.

 I love how people claim to have this bullshit about how much protein can be absorbed by the body. No one will know, we probably never will know. Just try to get a sufficient amount, about 1g/lb and go from there

but we know how much can cause harm, and colon cancer..

eating sufficient protein isn't my concern.. where the other calories come from is right now

Over time, you know what works for you and what doesn't. I'm sure you can bring that down significantly.

Of course it is... You only eat 2,000 cals, 1,000 of which come from whey :mamoru:

    +1.

When I first started trying to "diet" several years ago my cut diet consisted mostly of watching fats. It was hilarious; my dinner would be 2 grilled chicken breasts, fat free chips, and 2 cups of white rice :rofl:

Breakfast would be a bagel with fat-free spray butter and fat free yogurt.

I was probably still consuming 2,500 cals but with 300g of carbs a day and maybe 30g fat.

It took me quite a while and a lot of experimenting (like PB stated) to learn how macro adjustments affect my body. I feel I've got it down pretty well now. I know what my body needs and what it works best on... It's just a matter of sticking to it.

I already have the diets ingrained in my head for what is necessary to cut down, maintain, and bulk.

The hard part is friggen sticking to it. If I didn't have the cheat meals I did, I'd probably be significantly more lean.

I remember one say you posted a sample of your diet for that day and it was like 2,100 cals and 1,030 of that were whey shakes

That must have been one of those days you were talking about where you just didn't "feel" like eating so you force-fed yourself whey
