Hot shit. I've never built a motor and I expect I never will unless I end up with a ridiculous amount of time on my hands, but I've built other stuff and I know how cool it is when it works.

Have you cranked it yet, or is it still just an exceptionally-heavy paperweight?

    Good work.
Just wondering why you didn't upgrade to an H22?

cause they're over rated and i'd have to run premium gas. I just need a well built upgrade, driveability is key. Plus i can bolt on a low boost turbo system for another grand or so and have way more power than an H22A.

Can't say I'm keen on those wheels on something as plain as an Accord (I never liked black wheels, they look grimy even when they're clean), but I can certainly sympathise with wanting a comfortable sedan with some oomph to it. I drive a Passat, myself; not much I can do to it except swap out the turbo and chip the ECU, but it's a damn nice car.

How many miles are on that new motor? What kind of restoration was done to it, besides taking it apart and cleaning it?

Are you using this as a DD? How much dinero have you spent? I'm looking for something like that to replace the BMW.

I'm going to paint the car the colour of the valve cover eventually, so the black wheels will look fine. As far as what's been done, the motor was in pretty good shape so i just cleaned it, got all new seals and bearings and put it back together.

Yes it's my DD, well the bumper gets change for the winter but yeah.

i've spent about 13-14k canadian, including the 4k for the car itself.

Jesus. 18k for that car? I'm sure you've taken care of whatever major problems it has, but that price is inching perilously close to a sensible down-payment on a good new car.

That's an unusual color for a car. Is it going to be glossy, or matte like the cam cover?

no 14,000 over 4.5yrs. I've upgrade everything, there's 1000 in the suspension, 750 in brakes, 3500 in stereo, 1400 for the wheels, 700 for the front bumper/lights/lip, 1400 for the new motor and trans, 400 for the clutch, 250 for tint, 140 for the short shifter & knob and 4000 for the car.

the paint will be satin finish, smooth but not glossy.

there's almost 408,000kms on the odometer.

He said including 4k for the car, not "plus" :hsugh: :p

Still, that's 10k in mods on a 15 year old economy car. Definitely not my bag baby.

    It's only 13.5 :o

Lol, i love that car. I know exactly how big it is, it handles great, now it's got enough power (for a DD). 10k isn't that bad, plus why buy something newer that doesn't need work and then rip it all apart. The car isn't really worth anything to anyone but me. Modding up new cars depreciates value, so why not start with something not worth much?

but it's probably one of the best car honda honda built, next to the EG Si HB's. If the R&D that went into those two cars continued with their successors, they deffinetly wouldn't be in the economy class anymore.

I would say that the why reason you start with a new car is because you don't NEED to tear it apart all at once, so you don't have to invest the extra money all at once, and you're less likely to lose hundreds of hours of work all at once if you get tail-ended by a dump truck. With a new car, you'll get more money back. I suppose it's questionable whether your total loss of money would be less with a new car that depreciates fast vs. an old car that took a lot of money to restore, though.

Do they care what you've done to the car, or are they strict blue-bookers? If they do care about your mods, what did you have to do to get them to revalue the car appropriately?

i've added extra coverage for the stereo, everything else they don't care about cause i don't race it. I actually don't too. it's pure enjoyment for me, i love doing it all myself.

I wonder if I could score a car like that, preventive maintence already done, maybe some ups, then do an engine swap.

How much power to the wheels/crankshaft are you putting out?

i dunno, it's only got 700kms on it, i'll probly dyno in a week or so. but i'm hoping for 150ish at teh wheels, and that should make around 160ft-lbs too.

doesn't sound like much, but the car only weighs 3000lbs with everything i've done to it. for comparision, a stock h22 only puts down like 156whp and even less torque.

I can also piece together a low boost turbo kit for a grand or so and bump it up to 200whp/210ft-lbs with 5-6psi.
