You might as well get a new laptop, as much as a replacement screen would cost.

yeah - but LCD panels aren't exactly cheap. First off, I'd find a Dell message board (not Dell's though) and find out what other models utilize the same LCD. Companies are notorious for charging more based on what unit it came from rather than just the model of LCD it is. a nice portion of Dell's laptops use a 14.1 xga panel. Once you find out what the p/n is on it, this site: http://www.idparts.com/dell.htm has some LCDs that aren't too bad. I don't see your laptop model listed there, but like I said - alot of laptops utilize the same LCD.

Yea, isn't there any kind of warranty on it? I have had Dell laptop screens replaced the next day on laptops at work pretty much with no questions asked.

Same thing happened with my 600m, I called up dell, I was still under warranty. They sent out a technician 2 days later and he fixed it. No questions asked and no fee.

The 600m is a newer laptop...it must still have some kind of warranty.

Sign up for an account at http://support.dell.com then grab the service tag # off the bottom of your laptop and plug it into the webpage and it will show you what warranties you had and how much time is left on them.

    thanks guys!

on the support.dell.com page it says:
Description Provider Start Date End Date Days Left
    Rapid Response Depot SOL 5/24/2004 5/24/2005 137

so i guess thas a warranty right? i better jump on it quick. it also says that the dell part number for my screen is:

2K077 LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY, THIN FILM TRANSISTOR, EXTENDED GRAPHICS ARRAY, STANDARD PANEL WORK GROUP B, 14.1, LENGTH/LONG

i guess i will call and if that doesn't work, try to find a equivilent LCD and try to install it.

    thanks guys.

dunno where that best buy gets its parts, but most laptop screens cost around $300 when I need em. Labor charges should be non-existant because I would do it... And that's reason 1027 why you should never take your system to best buy.
