Put the camera in timer mode and it'll allow for you to use a wireless remote. The remote has either a 0 second delay or 2 second delay. It autofocuses first then takes the picture.

yeah i need to get the handstrap. the neck strap gets on my nerves

i bought it primarily to be able to do star trails since you can leave the shutter open and the 350d has mirror lock up

    cool ^

I'm going to try this but with 2 minute exposures, 0 delay between, and set for like one hour of doing this with the timed remote. First one will be a dark frame too.

When I sent my 20D in for cleaning and adjusting to my exact lenses I had them remap the sensor for clean astrophotography. Seems to make a huge difference in seeing hot spots in other exposures (like 30" ISO 800 etc)

i tried one for 2 minutes and 30 minuets last night using my 50mm f/1.8. it was a pitch black street w/ the aperture set on f/2.8. I ran into some problems.

    1. with both the kit lens and the 50mm I could not get it to focus at all
    2. when i tricked it into focusing then moved it to the sky, the one on 30 minutes has so much light on it that it looks like its daylight.

any ideas on how to focus it when its pointing straight up and why on a fully dark street it had way too much light?

Aperature at 2.8? Try changing it to somewhere in between 22-32, set the focus to manual and just set it to infinity.

not really. i shined my car headlights into the bushes and focuesd on that. then taking advantage of the 2 second delay in the remote and the shutter opening i quickly moved the camera to point up.

:slap: :uh: it never crossed my mind to try and manual focus. i guess b/c it was so dark and nothing to really focus on
