Went to the grocery store to get a salad for lunch and I dont have any olive oil at home so I figure i'd get a bottle. Didnt find any in the cooking oil section so I went to the health isle and it was $9 for 16oz :ugh:. So I do a search and im reading youre not supposed to cook with extra virgin. Gonna go get my $9 back. :o

The heat of cooking causes the olive oil to break down and become less beneficial. Insted use coconut oil to cook with, has a great taste and is not affected by the heat.

You are correct. Your best bet is to go to a wholesale club and buy a big tin of it. You can also blend it with some veggie oil if you like...truffle oil is great too. The only time you should use the good olive oil is for salads and shit.

Then ill probably keep it and use it for salads. I tried out balsamic vinagrette dressing today and it's pretty tasty. Thought it would taste like shit because of the dark brown color. :o

"Once mistakenly believed to be unhealthy because of its high saturated fat content, it is now known that the fat in coconut oil is a unique and different from most all other fats and possesses many health giving properties. It is now gaining long overdue recognition as a nutritious health food."

You can fry with extra virgin olive oil, even deep fry with it (such as the Italian dish Jewish Artichokes)

Although I highly don't recommend it, it's far too expensive, and way better for you if you have it "raw"

Well, partly because you change the molecular structure when you heat something, making it less healthy for you

Mainly because olive oil, especially extra virgin olive oil, has a very low smoke point, and it tastes nasty after that point.
