The thing is now, it comes with the 2 different kit lenses. I know that these lenses are "decent".

I still have to make a "wishlist" (sounds like i'm 5y.o. :o) for my grandparents and aunts/uncles, etc....

Should I ask for another lense? I dont know how much they're willing to spend. My grandmother will sometimes spend upwards of $200.00, especially if it was going towards a positive cause, such as my growing photography hobby. Will $200.00 buy any kind of decent lens? I'm sure that if it wont, I can get my other grandparents and family to "go in" on one.

    Just curious.

I am the type of guy who likes to save up for "good" equipment/electronics/things, etc....

Obviously lenses can easily reach thousands of dollars. I guess i'm looking for a middle ground if there is one :o

Thanks in advance for your advice and help.

btw, this Camera is most likely purchased at Costco. So whatever their "bundle" is.

I would ask for amazon gift cards...you can use them to go towards a $$ lens.

    Or a 50mm f/1.8 That's well under $200 and it's a really sharp lens.

Costco bundle comes with 18-70/3.5-4.5 and 55-200/whatever IIRC. Get the 50/1.8. Sell the 55-200 and with the cash +200, you might be able to get an 85/1.8. Telephoto can wait (unless you're dead set on it).

Learn to use both the lenses, when the time comes to upgrade, sell em, and get the 18-200 3.5-5.6 (?) VR lens??? PROFIT!

I heart my tamron 17-50, but when the shit is Tokina gonna get their goddamn 16-50 into the market?!?

As for the 18-200, i dunno what else to recommend, lots of people rocking that lens and saying good things about it.
