I am troubled by the portrayal of Asians in American cinema

I just saw "Just Married" last night and I was frankly appalled by the role of the Asian butler who (of course) could not speak nor understand English. He was also portrayed as scheming, cowardly, and existed solely as comic relief.

This would be fine but the problem is that ALL the Asian characters we see on screen in America:

    1) Martial arts pros
    2) Criminals/Yakuza/Mafia
    3) sex objects (Geisha girls, etc)
    4) Bumbling idiots who hide when fights break out/traitors/etc
    5) Deliberately cannot speak English well (Data in Goonies)

    This must stop!

I agree, it could be worse. Black people get this the worst, but people are AFRAID of blacks and that's why they stop doing it.

But Asians...it's like nobody cares or feels threatened by them, so it's ok to keep making fun of them. That shit in Lethal Weapon 4 was inexusable.

well people with half a brain would know most of the portrayals in media about asians aren't entirely true.

then again, i really have no idea on what degree of gullability Canadians/Americans are at, so who knows.

Right, but you are only talking about movies and what you see on TV, but I'm more talking about Business, and job places... It a lot easier to be Asian or White compare to latino and blacks.

You should see some of the portrayals of whites in Japanese films.
