What is a good starting spot? I just need to convert from .wma to .mp3, every program i use crashes when faced with huge numbers, so i'd like to try and write a better one.

I know nothing about audio anything, i know programming pretty good.

I want to use C# since it will interface with windows nicely.

If you can suggest a free open source ripper that would be cool since i can see what they've done....

Thanks for any help, i'll share what i come up with if it ever turns out....:noes:

Ehm no, *.wma's are licensed by Microsoft and on default not allowed to be converted to other formats. My advice is to avoid wma files alltogether like the plague and only stick with mp3's. Don't use a windows media player to begin with. Even if you know good programming doesn't mean you know how wma's are constructed and decoded.

If you want to give it a try however check out http://members.fortunecity.com/mh001/wma2file.htm maby you can still find a working program there.

Have you tried using dBPowerAmp to convert your music? And maybe processing them in batches of ten or so?

there is the problem. I don't want to do it in batches of ten, i want to do like 300, let it run over night and not spend all day minding it.

I'm trying dBPowerAmp now, writing my own turned out to be pretty damn tough :o

thanks for all the thoughts though.

    Code:
    [[email protected] ~]$ cat `which wma2ogg`
    #!/bin/bash

    if [ ! "$1" ]
    then
            echo "File doesn't exist!"
            exit
    fi
    mplayer -ao pcm "$1"
    oggenc -q 5 audiodump.wav -o "${1/.wma/.ogg}"
    rm audiodump.wav
    rm "$1"

    :dunno:

Two weeks late, but an impressive effort nonetheless.

I didn't notice the date on the original post :o

Also, I may have stolen that from somewhere online, I don't remember exactly. I also don't remember when I last used it.
