The thing gets so hot, I can hear what temperature its at by the RPM of the fan. Off is <80C. Quiet fan is >80C or so. Loud fan is high 80s/low 90s.

So I spent all night tuning indexes and queries on the script that generates data for our new normalized database in MySQL. I had to port it over from a single table in SQLite. And finally I got the indexes right so it didn't slow to shit as it went, creating some 250K odd entries into one table.

And it gets real hot when it crunches alot of data in MySQL. And the fan kicks on high. But when its done... the fan quickly shuts off. So I know its done working. I can also feel the change in the heat radiating off the keys.

I am in tune with the state of my processes and the load they place on my processor through the sound of the fan and temperature of the computer.

    Ooohhhhhhmmmm...

What would be great would be a rumbling engine noise that respods to processor load above a certain percent by adjusting the volume up.
