I am looking to get a Mercedes S class...

    but not the current styling but the one they had before, like this

    I know they have specific codes for stylings but I don't know them.
    Anyway, I was told by some people that some years of that style are good years while others I need to stay away from reliabilitywise.

    Someone tell me what are good reliable years for S-class and what engines are the best, please.

    You're going back two gens I believe.

    I don't know anything about them, but just stay away from the first model year. That goes for any car.

    As far as the engines, try to get a 420 or 500. the 320 might be too much of a slow-poke. The 320, 420, and 500 are in the E-Class sedans/wagons as well. Since they are shared, repairs and parts will be less than that of the S600 v12.

    Omege6_Virus did a pretty good job ar explaining it...


    S320 is not worth getting into. S420 and S500 would be what you should look for, unless you don't care about acceleration at all, but I would not advise buying a V12 s600 due to it being more expensive to fix and maintain.
