i am sick of people that make older gay men and many others feel the way that they do: that they are worthless, too old to be worth anything. It's a bloody vicious cycle.

I am disturbed about how gays cultivate this idea that their lives are over at 25 when they're just beginning. How younger people discriminate older ones. An how even the older ones discriminate against those their own age.

I just dont get why people cant accept the inevitable, and realize they'll be there at one point. We live, we grow older, we age, we lose our hair, we get a gut, we lose our looks and all we'll have left is the memories and our heart and soul.

Instead I feel as if we live in a society where young people dish out shit to the older guys, and come 20 years from now, theyre on the other end, living the exact depression they gave to their counterparts. The depression of course is mostly on the older gay man himself but I can't help but find some of those younger guys to be culpable as well.

Gay people are supposed to bond together because we are a minority. Yet as there is discrimination in ethnic minorities (dark skinned blacks/latinos/indians/etc. vs. light skinned blacks/latinos/indians/etc.), there is internal discrimination within the gay population as well in regards to race, age, etc.

It's late. I'm just ramblin and reflectin over my conversation with a friend, but I feel like it isn't that hard just to put aside these superficial ideals and just look at that older gay man and try to see where he has been. I have many friends many years older than me and I love them for who they are and what they have learned and seen in life. They have taught me so much and gave me a lot to look forward to and I just feel terrible to hear people say the things they say because they might be over 35.

With all that ramblin over with, I just want to say that I VOW TO NOT FALL INTO THAT VICIOUS CIRCLE. I will not allow myself to fall into this trap of judging others for their age and in 20 years, for feelin sorry for myself because I am aged. I will display my balding head with pride to the sun and everyone else. I will stick out that hideous beer belly that i have nurtured for the past 20 years and smile at that cute young twink that might pass and look at me in disgust. And i will tell every one of the hundreds of perfect wrinkles on my face that I am happy they are there to live the rest of the years of life with me.

Trust me, i'm not drunk! Just reflecting and optimistic, and maybe a little overdramatic :hs:

Unfortunately, a lot of gay culture is too heavily focused on looks and youth rather than some of the other qualities that are more valuable and enduring.

I'm happy that you mentioned this queer taboo (oops, 11 people viewed the thread without posting). I, for one, appreciate an aged queer. Usually, they are a spit fire, a literal LOLercoaster of joy and musicals. Especially when they have found happiness and love, and when they have not, the refined cynicism is amusing. That said, I like older fags. But I know that some others don't... Well, let me say this: you can be as fascinated and captivated by hard muscles and long endurance (both in the bed and on the dance floor), BUT I'll take a viagra popper who can do me long time, and has the experience to not sabotage the damn relationship just because the self-imposed shelf life of queer relationships is spos to 3-5 months, so that we can move on, and fuck something knew...

It's an unfortunate stigma of society, but I don't think it is necessarily confined to gay culture. Perhaps straight guys don't care so much about their own looks because they don't judge the attractiveness of males in the same way as they do females, but they certainly hold women up to ridiculous standards of youth and beauty in the same way that gay men do with other men. It's our society. Look in any pop culture magazine. Nothing but hot young men and women, none a day over 29 years old.

You sure do have a way with words

That is one of the gayest things I've ever heard :mamoru:

:) Depends on what people consider valuable and endearing. But you're right, it seems like gay culture really is all about fashion, good sex, and talking about it after.

you know, me and my friend were just talking about this a few weeks ago that most of these tensions occur because of one's own insecurities which make them have to lash out. Had i not been so disturbed about this "ageism" that i saw that one night, i wouldnt have even bothered posting this :hs:

Thanks for the feedback everyone :)

it's so cute when people do that... It's like, being on a walkie-talkie in a movie or something, but in a forum.
