So that this car will be mine: [IMG]

3.0 Rebello with 9k on it, Tokico motorsport suspension, no smog laws to worry about in CA, do want :wtc:

course, it helps me focus when I look at the cost of the car vs. the cost of fixing my current car's transmission when if finally breaks (and all the other shit that doesn't work)

    It could be fun.

    Does it have a catalyst?

If it does, thats the first thing I'm ditching. smog laws in CA ftl, but Pre-smog ftw.

Then I hope it explodes when you turn the key. :)

No car is so badass that it can't have a high-flow catalyst. I don't make you breathe my smog, and I don't want to breathe your smog.

    Pretty. :)

You might actually want to consider keeping the cat, some carbed engines like the backpressure, and will give you better lower RPM power if you leave it in there. Not positive on this car, I've never messed with one.

I'm a college student, if its an option of hi-flow cat or no cat, I'll take the cheaper route.

    exhaust physics>you

minimal back pressure is the preferred choice assuming the engine is at optimum tune in all other areas, he would have to drop enough back pressure for the exhaust system to over scavenge forcing the engine cylinders to drop in pressure

a cat removal should be fine

Don't want to get busted for sound though :noes:

I'll see if I can pop it off long enough just to see how loud it is, and then decide then if I want to get a replacement pipe for the muffler as well.

240, 260, 280 were the only real z cars IMHO. I-6 and light weight ftw. (zx ftl)

the great thing about i6's, besides the sweet linear powerband, is when you let off the throttle, its quieter than you'd think with no muffler. on the gas, its pretty loud, though lol.

I'm a 20 year old male college student, what is this 'let off the throttle' you speak of?

I know some LEOs. When I get it, I'll drive to the shooting range when they are there and see if they would bust me for it :o

I have to worry about 4 different agencies though, which blows: Merced Police dept, Merced Sheriff's dept (both like 3 blocks away from me), CHP, and then UC Merced PD. :wtc:

For what it's worth, my MR2 passed the sniffer test in AZ just fine with absolutely no cat. I know Cali is much tougher tho, plus my car is fuel injected.

    pre-75 = no smog.

Yah, its only 1000lbs heavier :hsugh:

Well, thats the good thing about older cars, it isn't that hard to put new engines into them, since you don't have to worry about existing computers.
