I know there's been a lot of buzz about the Genesis lately... just wanted to see if anyone's driven one yet. Personally I've been impressed, especially with the design. Thoughts?

That's a good shot of it.

No, I haven't driven one, but word has it you're wasting your money to get the V8 because the V6 is so good.

Yeah, if it were me I would go with the V6 for sure. Saves a little money on gas, too.

I'm really surprised when people say they have seen a "few" or "one". They're everywhere in SoCal, surprisingly. All I can say is, good job Hyundai!

have yet to see one, but then again, there are few cars on my college campus to begin with, and most college kids don't drive Genesis' if daddy bought them a 35K+ car

I think you're missing the point. The extra power isn't enough to make a difference in this V8.

Of course, if they made a V8 exactly the same size and power as the V6, I'm sure you'd prefer it, just because it has that magic number in it.

Considering that Korea and California share a water border, unlike 45 other states, it's not that surprising.

What are you talking about? You test-drive it and you either like it or you don't. Whether it catches on as a trend has absolutely nothing to do with anything.

Why does this even matter? It's not like they're a couple miles from each other.

It's like saying you're more likely to see BMW's in Virginia than California, because Europe and Virginia share a water border.

IIRC, they have an office in Gardena CA (Like Honda, Toyota, and formerly Nissan).

it means it could either be a huge success and steal market share from bmw, lexus and MB (like the 1990 ls400) or it could be a car that no one buys and is a failure.

I have a b5 passat same as you and I know as good as anyone else that if these cars were as reliable and as cheap to maintain as a camry that the passat would have been the #1 sedan for at least a few years after 98.

its the bs problems and tarnished reliability rating that kept vw down in that case and the same could happen to hyundai

stuff like the fibre-optic car network would worry me as a reliability issue.

Yeah, Hyundai is in Gardena I think, Honda is in Torrance, Toyota is in Irvine, and Nissan may be in Irvine too. But I still don't see your point; how would Hyundai having an office in California have an effect on the Genesis' presence?

Toyota is Torrance/Gardena, as well. I grew up in Torrance and drove by the North America Corporate HQ on Western a few times a week -- if not daily.

Nissan used to be right next door (literally) but they moved to Tennessee a few years ago.

A lot of the familys I went to school with had at least one parent or close member that WORKED at one of the manu's and they are all offered subsidized vehicle purchases so they inevitably all drive them.

It's not like Hyundai is the only company copying design cues from Lexus. Have you seen the new F01 7-series? That looks like a blatant rip off of the LS

in their defense, the current LS is a E66.
