    Hey WMD'ers,

I have a legal question, regarding usage of firearms for home defense. My girlfriend is moving into an apartment in a questionable area, and i'd like to get her a gun for self defense, in case. I have an 870 I can loan to her, but I was wondering, if she ever has to use it, will there be a problem with the law, since it technically isn't hers? Or should I have her go out and buy one, with money we probably shouldnt be spending?

you don't need to own a firearm to use one lawfully.

    Dear sir,

Pics of your girlfriend are needed to answer correctly.

    Preferably nudes.

    Waiting patiently,

    WMD

I agree. But if for whatever reason her location can't be changed, loaning her your shotgun isn't an issue. As long as she is of legal age and to the best of your knowledge she can legally own it.

That also takes into account there aren't any local registration or other laws prevailing.

don't you have to "transfer" a gun in cali to loan it?

Do not move to the questionable area

As for using the gun for lawful self defense, it should not matter (in most cases Cali maybe an oddity)

Do you have to register shotguns in Cali or transfer them through an FFL? If not simply "gift" the gun to her as a house warming.

A question to ask yourself, do you think that if need be she could willingly and knowing take the life of another human being?

I wish she wasn't moving into the questionable area, but budget and location dictate it must be so.

As for transferring it...I'm not too sure about the laws and rules, was kinda hoping someone was fluent in CA bullshit.

And as for if she's up to the task, I think she understands the responsibility behind owning and using a firearm.

It's probably nothing compared to what CA will do to you after you shoot somebody. :noes:

If it's a good shoot, it shouldn't matter who owns the gun (so long as she can legally use it), even in CA.

That being said, she really should have a gun in her name if she is going to use it as an HD weapon.
