say you want www.eatmydick.com but its taken, is www.eat-my-dick.com okay?
or is it spammy?
most use hyphens for seo traffic mainly, although there seems to be some debate on whether it matters or not.
Most people dislike having to type the hyphens in, and often times forget.
hmm, good point.
do people ever really type in a domain name anymore? (cereal question) or do they google, or click on a link from another site?
I do from time to time
I do. My main money makers (seo) have a hyphen. Don't normally try to do more than 1 hyphen though, looks spammy.
nm im a retard. the domain without the hyphens was available
im really surprised it was lol
presumably no hyphens > hyphens?
If you plan to build a site that you want return visitors and such. If you are just building at basic landing page or "made for adsense" site intending to get search traffic then it doesn't matter at all. I'd personally take a domain with great keywords with hyphens over one without hyphens with subpar keywords ...unless the site is intended for actual "users", then I go for easy to remember, catchy or the best keywords I can find with a .com
edit: if you are only planning to use a site for search marketing type stuff, a domain with hyphens can actually do better as it's easier to read. For example: bestlaptopdeals.com vs. best-laptop-deals.com ....the hyphened one is much easier to read and if that is what they are looking for the keywords will sick out like a sore thumb.
What the F are you advertising where someone has to type in a URL
Sorry this isnt 1998 when most domains were found by typing them in.
If you use ad's or even grab SERP traffic , where does typing in a domain come in ?
Tell free-press-release.com that
I would rather not have one but I've been using a domain with one in it for YEARS. I don't think it really hurts much, or at least have no way to measure anyway. The domain without the hyphen is blank.
It sucks when verbally telling someone because you always have to specify the damn hyphen.
I type the domain minus http://www. or .com and hit control+enter.
Shit+control+enter for .org, etc
