I like the looks of their plain black suits are they a waste of money? Are there cheaper brands of the similar quality/style?

Well fuck me, I was not expecting you to say that....shit goes on sale so often at HB retail stores and in the dept stores that carry them

I would not pay more than the ~$300-350 I usually see this stuff on sale for, given how relatively low the quality is compared to some of the higher quality suits in the $800-1000 range (fused, no canvas, little hand-work, low to mid-range wools). However, it's not going to fall apart when you touch it; the quality is presumably good enough since I take it you don't wear suits very often.

The bottom line is, if you like the style, it fits (this point is pretty subjective), and you can afford whatever price point you are finding it at, then do it.

word to the guys who say they bought the suits on sale.

if you can afford to buy it outright go ahead they are great qaulity/cut and have a great reputation for qaulity

but imo getting a deal on them is always great

I have one and its my favorite.

There was some Italian brand that seemed to fit a little bit better (I have very broad shoulders), but I got mine on sale for less than a $500 (shoes, tie, shirt ect.). There are deals to be had out there.

As a word of warning, black suits are generally not considered business appropriate. If you're planning to wear it to work or job interviews people that "know" men's clothing will think you're poorly dressed.

If you really know your measurements, check out stores.ebay.com/The-Wizard-of-Aahs/ I've heard surprisingly good things about the quality of the suits they're selling.

based on your guy's feedback I think I'm going to go ahead and pick up the black version of the 2 button suit above tomorrow. Is there any reason I should do a 3 button instead of the 2 button?

Soybomb I work in a industry that doesn't really care what you wear to work but I enjoy wearing a jacket/suit to work anyway.

I spent several weeks in an investment banking division, London this year. If anywhere, those guys know how to dress properly and also have the cash to have it done their way.

plenty of black suits. just make sure it has a rather slim cut.

I've bought expensive designer suits at Saks and Bloomingdale's before, but now I just go to Men's Warehouse. They're just as good and much, much more affordable.
