fuck dell, they all break after 3 years of use. don't know one person that is happy with theirs.

between your options, id check out the HP. if you have a costco membership they have a nice 15.4 pavillion, 4gb ram, 320gb hd, core2duo 2.0ghz plus a wireless printer for $800

every HP laptop/desktop I've ever used was a gigantic turd.

    and that's how opinions go.

reality is any of them will be decent and if you take care of them should last a long while.. assuming you don't mind buying a new battery every 1-2 years

if you are going to go dell go through the small biz link they are put together better and last longer. I reccomend an e6400 14 hours with the battery slice.

Dell has the highest return percentage rate on laptops in the industry. That being said, I'd probably go with the Lenovo.

It does matter. Lot's of manufacturers have their problems. Heat sink issues, battery issues, hardware failure, and so on.

every laptop/laptop manufacturer has battery problems. apple, hp, dell, lenovo, acer, sony, asus.. ALL of them. I think samsung has the longest battery life right now, with their own battery tech, but I don't know if it affects the lifespan

most laptop batteries won't perform well after 2-3 years no matter how well you take care of them

I've never had a laptop that didn't break, dell's onsite warranty is pretty sweet, a couple of months ago they replaced 90% of the parts in my 3 and a 1/2 year old laptop.

so my vote is always for dell with onsite warranty

I'm a Mac fanboi, however of the choices, I'd go with Lenovo. I owned a ThinkPad R61 and loved it. I used my MacBook Pro for everything then used my Lenovo for IE development (It was free, that's why I had it for such a weird reason considering I have Windows on my laptop as well).

I have a MacBook... but, I've had Dell, HP and Lenovo.

Lenovo has the best build quality hands down. But the CTRL key is swapped with a function key, some people find that awkward. And Lenovo you usually have a lot of great battery options because they designed the laptop so the battery can hang out from the back.

    HP is good overall.

Dell is good overall, but get their more expensive lines, or it's crap, then again, if you're going to buy an expensive Dell might as well look to a Lenovo and save money :p

right now i have a toshiba, 2nd time i have used toshiba and never had a problem with them

I'm a dell repair tech, I have done onsite repair on laptops and stuff, you can't beat dell as far as service. I'm also an ibm tech and do the same but never been sent out to repair notebooks only servers at the local hospital.

Toshiba's are infamous for their overheating issues. Although, by now, I'm sure they've gotten better.
