HP a335w keeps shutting down....

    A friend handed me her PC to take a look at. Dont know much about it except its a p4 running XP. WHen you first turn the computer on (after leting it sit for a day or so)it will get all the way to the desktop screen and then shut off. No warnings or anything, it just shuts off. trying to restart it, it stays on for no more that a few seconds and dies again...doesnt make it to any screens at all.


    I did try and boot in safe mode once and it still did the same thing.

    Im not sure how noisy this pc is spose to be, but the fans are working and I can here the hard disks but they dont seem overly noisy.


    Anyone have any ideas for me?:x:

    too little info. could be a multitude of things. try running memtest and seatools on it.

    did you even fucking search those too things? THEY DO NOT REQUIRE WINDOWS.

    yes....thanks for asking. :squint:

    this thing shuts down sometimes before the dos prompts come up. it shuts itself down sometimes 3 seconds afer hitting power button.

    so possibly power supply, thermal issue, or memory.
