Still working on mustering up my first tattoo. Thinking of a combination of the following:

    [IMG][IMG]

Obviously the second (arm) isn't going to be copied, as I really can't see tribal and native designs mixing well.... but I would be looking for something similar to the tribal design.

    But here's the kicker:

I want all of the interior of any heavy black to be yellow to mix with the central piece better.

Well well will yellow stand out in ink, on a white guy?

it depends on you and your artist.

How well your skin takes color and specifically yellow. Some people just don't take certain colors and i know some colors are more common than others.

I've seen great yellow tattoos on people and ones that the body just seemed to reject it. Plus if the artist is good it helps

I'd be more concerned with the design you want before worrying about colors. Tribal and Haida (native) don't go together.

Thanks for the advice so far.

Not sure if some of you guys missed the above, but I'm not looking to copy the tribal armband, but just use it as a reference for the position, and the thickness of the amount of ink I wanted to get tattooed with. I would be looking for a heavy black/yellow design to go around my upper arm to showcase the center sun better.

Yellow on it's own will fade into the background of your skin unless you're an albino

Yellow bordered by a darker pigment will hold up better, but it does depend how your body takes the colour and how you take care of the piece (sunburn etc)

If you are young, (I'm guessing here) then I recommend a rethink of the design or placement, the bicep/shoulder area can have pretty big changes in size if you start/stop working out. A symmetrical design will warp and distort and end up looking shitty. Your body is a 3D canvas, with shape and contour. A good tattoo will use these to enhance the design rather than just be a pretty picture

I'm 26, so I don't know how much more my arm is willing to change :o
But while I'm not an albino, I spend too much time on OT, so I am a shade of pink, fuck off sun!

Would a full sleeve hide any stretch/distortion better? Would it be more obvious in a lighter coloured tattoo than a darker one?

I am wondering if making it more of an orangish yellow in addition to the black outline might help it stand out more against my skin....

I have three tattoos with yellow in them, and they've all held up just fine.

it's not about the color itself, it's about the color contrast. dark background = any primary color will be vibrant.

I'm something like 1/8 native, 7/8 Scot, but I don't really identify with any of the native in me. More of a Pacific Northwest thing.

And update, haven't move forward with any of this yet... working on building up my arms first :o
