Will I damage my camera if I take pics in light rain? Are they waterproof at all?

If not, what kinds of things can I do to cover it up?

I had my Rebel XT out in a driving rainstorm to document a raging flood in front of my building. It got pretty wet and it was fine. I wouldn't recommend it though.

I had my 20D in Japan while it was raining/sprinkling and extremely humid. Camera seems okay. :x:

all nikon slr's have rubber seals on them, which make them water resistant, I've had my d70 and d200 out in the rain on numerous occasions. They hold up fine.

    I'm not sure about canon

Since when is the D70 weather sealed? And the D50 isn't weather sealed. Even if it were, you would have to accompany it with a weather sealed lens.

Use plastic grocery bags and rubber bands for lens, use ziplock clear bags for body.

I wouldn't trust my D70 or 18-200 VR to be weather sealed, but I did get salt spray onto my new lens when it was a week old and it still works fine :)

I'd be using some sort of protection if I was using it in a proper rain shower though. It's just not worth the risk.

It's not classified as "weather sealed" but if you look on the doors of every part of it, it has rubber seals on them. And those have seemed to work great for me.

I'll probably stick to this too. Not worth the risk.

You'll find yourself into a situation that you can't do anything about it.

It's not classified as weather sealed because it's not weather sealed.

He probably put black RTV sealant around every button and the viewfinder. Around the lens contacts is good too. :x:

you'll never get the amazing shots that you can get when you put yourself out there either.

i'm sure you can get other great shots, but yours will simply be those that are also accessible to everyone else.
