It's from an article at bodybuilding.com:

    http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/hitworkout.htm

and my second question is how true is the statement that for the purposes of gaining mass, doing one set of reps to failure between (usually) 8-10 reps will result in bigger gains in size (the logic is that it's a full body workout 3 times a week) than the standard 3 sets of :mb: on a particular group 1 to 2 times a week?

I know I should search this subforum for answers first, but my questions are related to this specific article.

    Thanks in advance.

unless you're a top level competitor, the pro's will outweigh the con's of working out for "47mins"

in general, I tend to ignore rules like that that have such specific numbers in them because everybody is different, so setting a specific value for everybody typically doesn't make sense.

    That's a load of shit

Besides.. you NEED cortisol to function. it actually HELPS you to cope with stressful situations (such as squatting 500lbs)

Cortisol is what helps you wake up in the morning. You know when you only sleep 3hrs, and feel groggy first thing, but later on you manage to get by ok - that's cortisol working.

As Ceaze said, it's only a problem if it's constantly high. If you have Cushings or you're just majorly stressed/sleep-deprived then it would be a problem. Otherwise, don't worry about it
