I saw them talked about on T-Nation, but never saw an explanation as to how they are performed. Apparently they are great for shoulder rehab.

take a broom stick (something light, straight, and sturdy = broomstick), hold it so your arms are locked out (but not too forcefully), and lift it up like a front raise over your head and too your lower back (when done right, if you keep your arms locked out the ENTIRE motion, your shoulder will dislocate. if you do this routinely, your shoulders will feel much better!

i don't know how good these really are for you, but i hear they're good... esp for rehab.

personally, i like them but can't seem to do them "routinely".. only when i remember to.

Having your shoulder actually dislocate cannot be good for you. OUT!

you should really try it at least once. seriously. i definitely advocate them. supposedly this exercise can reduce like a majority of shoulder problems if done regularly. it really doesn't hurt, just feels like you are stretching your shoulders really thoroughly.

Is that actually the movement? Because I don't have near that range of motion in my shoulders.

exactly. you're going to have to go really wide.

what i did was make a mark with a sharpie on where my thumbs were.. did like 2 sets of 50 and then next time i did em i'd try to go in like 1/2cm-1cm from that mark and place another........ rinse, repeat.

imagine doing a front raise behind your back. hold the bar behind you and raise up with locked out arms over your head. (that's the 2nd part of the exercise)

the first part is just doing a front raise with arms locked. bring the bar over your head, still keeping your arms locked (they stay locked throughout the movement) all the way to your lower back.

its not a pressing movement, its a circumduction about the shoulder joint, both hands holding a broomstick (or minibands in gogzilla's case)

Okay I just tried them and I had to use a VERY wide grip....so wide that I could barely get the broom over my head without it brushing my scalp. My shoulders are burning pretty good, I hope this helps to make them feel a little better.

believe it or not, it's actually easier to do this while holding something.. it's damn near impossible to do it without holding anything, so that's why you feel this way. try holding a broom stick (i like using a pushbroom's stick since they feel sturdier to me + they're generally longer than normal broomsticks)
