If you have a pulse and run Windows, you've probably run installed a problematic program before, and then discovered that you couldn't uninstall it in Safe Mode, despite the fact that Safe Mode is the only way you can boot up and log in. Awkward.

I ran across this bit of advice online this morning; it re-enables the use of the Windows Installer service in Safe Mode, so you can install and uninstall programs. Why the hell Microsoft thought it would be a good idea to disable this feature, I have no idea. What the hell good is Safe Mode if you can't use it to fix problems, anyway?

Run the following command in a DOS window:

    Code:
    [I][B]REG ADD "HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\SafeBoot\Minimal\MSIServer" /VE /T REG_SZ /F /D "Service"
    [/B][/I]

Interesting...I've ran into this issue countless times before with fellow coworker's PCs.

Yes. You can tell it's Windows by the prodigious use of full words, and abbreviations that include vowels.

    What are you talking about?

    REG ADD "HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\SafeBoot\Minimal\MSIServer" /VE /T REG_SZ /F /D "Service"

The full words are - add, service, and some in that path thing.

WHAT THE FUCK IS THE REST OF IT? HKLM? (Oh, HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE or whatever that means :mamoru:) REG_SZ? (register size? what?) And those options /VE /T and /F and /D?

It's a dirty command. Admit it.

This is where UNIX wins, anyhow.
