i have heard of people using DUAL WAN router to take advantage of multiple connections (ADSL + cable for example). however, is there any other solution that is more economical?
from what i understand, a router is just a small computer. so is there such software that can help a PC to act as a router and handle dual internet connections like those Dual wan routers on the market??

unless you have spare hardware lying around, you are better off getting a dual WAN router. Preferably for dual ADSL2 lines. They're cheaper than another computer. And I would bet more reliable than most spare PCs that people generally have laying around.

If you have a p2 / p3 in decent shape there are more than a few linux distros that are noob friendly for doing such things. IE smoothwall (not that I would advise using smoothwall, its had a few exploits)
