I'm trying to figure out how big of a tv I'm going to need for my new house. Is there some sort of rule of thumb I can use? The room is a hair over 17' long, how big should I go? 50"? 60"? :x:

Well there's going to be a couch that runs 90 degrees to the tv about 6-12 ft away, and a couple of lazy boys about 13 and 15 ft away. A 50" should be fine according to that link, I think. (I rhyme)

Yeah, it's hard to say since everyone is different. For instance I sit 10'-11' from my 52" and I think it's a tad too far. I plan to upgrade to a 60" plasma soon. In my bedroom I am mabye 8' away from my 42" panasonic....and that seems fine....so again there is no real standard.

If you are sitting 13'-15' away I'd go with a 60"...imo.

seating position is the key attribute here, not room size. Room size will have an inpact on your audio gear.....your video gear is dependent on how far you are seating from it.

if you are sitting 7-10ft, a 50" will do fine. If going beyond that, you will need a 60"

    and of course, as always:

    1. Pioneer Plasma
    2. Panasonic Plasma
    3. Samsung Plasma
    4. Honduran Dogshit
    5. Tube TV
    6. Rear projection anything.

Well I have a 37" Lcd at home right now, and I usually sit around 9-10 ft from it. It's about a perfect size for me at that distance.

But the new house will have seats at different distances. Decisions, decisions.
