So I bought up an external harddrive to backup my Ready NAS. However, I'd like to secure it.

    Would something like TrueCyrpt work?

The device that the disk plugs into has to support encryption. If you're plugging it into a PC, TrueCrypt would work; if you're plugging it into your ReadyNAS, you probably don't have any options.

That's what i was afraid of... it's hard to do a backup job when you're using an encrypted drive

I posted on the readnas forums just now, maybe they can shine some light.

If you have a fast network (i.e. gigabit), just plug the drive into your PC, put TrueCrypt on it, and backup your ReadyNAS over the network.

Yeah I figure as a last resort I can do that.
