Hey guys, just wondering the safest route to remove gum from car paint. There is gum all over the rear quarter panel and partial rear bumper of my g/f's car. It's unreal how dumb women are with cars. Two weeks ago, I had to remove yellow paint from the driver side of the car b/c she drove over freshly painted lines.....the paint truck drove by her the opposite way...all she had to do was drive like a normal human for a few miles. :ugh: Anyway, any info would be appreciated. I got the blue chunks off it off with some optimum QD and a microfiber...but I don't want to rub the greasy leftovers into the paint.

I don't have one on me. I've read that I can use WD-40...but will that be alright with the paint?

Claybar is the best way to take it off. If you don't have a claybar, try some goo-gone or something like it. Be sure to clean the area real well after and apply some wax once finished.

I've heard that WD-40 would work too, but I'd be concerned with adding such a harsh chemical (petroleum distillates) to the paint. I wouldn't do it, myself. Honestly, if you don't have a Clay bar, you could use one and maybe now is a good time to invest in one?

    goo-gone will be fine.

and petroleum distillates are in some of the synthetic waxes that we use.

I just recently had tons of gum down the side of my car. Coated it in WD40 and came back to it with a little bit of elbow grease but got it all off.

And how do the newly self installed swirls and scratches look for you?

Ice the panel down and pick it off.
